7 Scriptures To Help Overcome Anxiety
Being an indie musician is much like being an entrepreneur: there is a ton to constantly be doing. Songs to write, videos to record, shows to book, band practices to schedule, merchandise meetings, website updates, and the list could definitely go on. It seems like I wake up early, go to bed late, and if I allow them to — my tasks will haunt me and anxiety will come knocking at my door.
A few people have asked how I get over it or “do it all without freaking out”. My answer? Two things: prayer and meditation. Yes, it’s really that simple. Prayer and meditation are two different actions, but both are tremendously simple: one is actively releasing a situation to God (prayer) and one is focusing your inner being on truth (meditation), but they can both often look the same.
When I meditate on (or in every day life I call it “memorize”) scriptures I am not only refocusing my mind on what is true, but praying to God that He would bring them to pass in my life. This is my key to peace in every situation. God really uses it in my life. Therefore, today I’m going to share 7 scriptures with you that have the ability to help us overcome our anxiety:
(1) Matthew 6:34
So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today.
(2) Philippians 4:6-7
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
(3) Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
(4) Matthew 11:28-30
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
(5) John 14:27
I am leaving you with a gift - peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don't be troubled or afraid.
(6) 2 Thessalonians 3:16
Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all.
(7) Hebrews 13:5-6
Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?"
